The Boat Parade Passes the Peninsula Twice: Planning Parade Week From Lido to the Fun Zone

The 118th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade runs Wednesday through Sunday, December 16 to 20, 2026. Each night it leaves the Tip of Lido Isle at about 6:30 p.m. According to the organizer's official 2026 route map, the boats go down the Peninsula's bay side in the first hour. Then they loop the harbor and come back up the Lido side just before they finish at 9:00 p.m.

So if you live between Lido and Peninsula Point, you get two passes of the same boats, about two hours apart. The time between them is yours to fill with dinner, a drone show, or a walk back to your own street.

Reading the map as two schedules

The route map lists estimated times at 57 points around the harbor. Pull out the Peninsula stops and you get two short blocks of time. One runs from about 6:49 to 7:25. The other runs from about 8:46 to 8:53.

First pass, heading east Est. time Return pass, heading home Est. time
Tip of Lido Peninsula / Rhine Channel 6:49 p.m. Lido Marina Village 8:46 p.m.
Woody's Wharf 6:51 p.m. Malibu Farm 8:47 p.m.
Peninsula Village / Buona Forchetta / CasaDami / Shorebird 6:52 p.m. Lido Bottle Works 8:47 p.m.
Marina Park 6:54 p.m. HanaHaus 8:48 p.m.
Lighthouse Café 6:55 p.m. Lido Park / Lido Bridge 8:50 p.m.
15th Street Beach 6:57 p.m. Via Lido North Genoa Beach 8:53 p.m.
10th Street Beach 7:02 p.m. Finish, Tip of Lido Isle 9:00 p.m.
Newport Landing Restaurant 7:14 p.m.
Balboa Peninsula Ferry Landing and Balboa Fun Zone 7:15 p.m.
Harborside Restaurant / Balboa Pavilion 7:15 p.m.
Davey's Locker 7:16 p.m.
Peninsula Point Beach 7:25 p.m.

Between those blocks, the parade moves past Pirate's Cove, China Cove, Balboa Island, Harbor Island and Mariners' Mile. The map gives estimates, and the organizer advises arriving early for the best viewing and parking.

The two halves of the Peninsula get different gaps. Near Marina Park, the boats pass at 6:54 and return to Lido Marina Village at 8:46, a walk away. By the map's times, that leaves about 1 hour and 52 minutes. The organizer's Marina Park page gives an earlier time, 6:45 p.m., for the boats passing the park, so the gap could run closer to two hours. Near the Fun Zone, the first pass comes later, at 7:15. The return pass never reaches Balboa Village, so the east end is a single-viewing neighborhood unless you head west for the finish.

Peninsula Park keeps its own clock

The drone shows complicate the east-end plan in a useful way. The organizer runs them from two places so they can be seen from both ends of the harbor. One launch site is Peninsula Park near the Fun Zone and the other is the Balboa Bay Resort area. The Peninsula Park shows start at 6:45 and 8:00 p.m. on all five nights. The Newport Dunes listing for the 2025 parade showed the same Peninsula Park times, so these shows are returning from last year rather than new for 2026.

Set those times against the route map and the Balboa Village evening falls into a sequence:

  1. 6:45 p.m. First drone show over Peninsula Park.
  2. 7:15 p.m. The parade passes the Ferry Landing, the Fun Zone and the Balboa Pavilion.
  3. 7:25 p.m. Boats reach Peninsula Point Beach.
  4. 8:00 p.m. Second drone show over Peninsula Park.

The second show starts about 35 minutes after the boats leave Peninsula Point. Someone heading west to see the finish on the Lido side would have to choose between the 8:00 drones and the 8:46 boats at Lido Marina Village. On a December weeknight, that trip across the Peninsula sets the pace of the evening.

What the gap is for

The organizer publishes two dining lists on its viewing restaurants page. "Dine & Watch" covers waterfront places where the parade goes past your table. "Dine & Walk" covers places a short walk from public viewing spots. Taken against the two-pass schedule, the lists sort themselves by when in the evening each place is most useful.

On the west end, the Dine & Watch list names Woody's Wharf and the three Peninsula Village restaurants: CasaDami, Shorebird Restaurant and Buona Forchetta. It also lists Lighthouse Bayview Cafe and the Sons of American Legion. All of these sit on the first pass between 6:51 and 6:56. On the return side, the list names Lido Marina Village and three of its spots: Malibu Farm, Lido Bottle Works and HanaHaus. The map puts those three at 8:47 to 8:48 p.m. A late reservation at one of them lines the end of dinner up with the boats coming home.

Cannery Village sits right in the middle of the gap. The Dine & Walk list for Cannery Village includes The Cannery Seafood of The Pacific, Bear Flag Fish Company, The Dock, Bluewater Grill, Le Bistro, Ho Sum Bistro, Buddha's Favorite, Sessions West Coast Deli and Alta Coffee Company. These are a short walk from both the Marina Park viewing area and the Lido Marina Village finish.

Further east, the Dine & Walk list tagged Balboa Peninsula includes The Crab Cooker, Mutt Lynch's, Il Farro, Charlie's Chili, 21 Oceanfront, Avila's El Ranchito, Mama D's and Il Gelato Café. For Balboa Village, it lists Siena Restaurant & Bar, The Sliding Door Cafe & Bakery, Ruby's Diner, Mavericks Gastropub, San Shi Go and Azar's Gourmet Pizza. The Dine & Watch list adds Newport Landing Restaurant and Harborside Restaurant, which the map times at 7:14 and 7:15.

Opening night starts at Marina Park hours ahead

Wednesday, December 16 has a longer lead-in than the other four nights. Marina Park at 1600 W. Balboa Blvd. starts a free opening-night program at 4 p.m. Its fourth annual Holiday Market with Vogels Vibes runs from 4 to 8 p.m., with more than 35 local makers, food vendors, live music, photo opportunities and children's activities. The organizer calls the 10.5-acre park the largest public viewing area on the route. It has 177 parking spaces, a nautical-themed playground and a sailing center.

The opening fireworks go off Newport Pier at about 6:15 p.m. if it is safe to do so under federal, state and local guidelines. On opening night, then, the Peninsula's evening starts at 4:00 with the market, reaches the fireworks at 6:15, has drones at 6:45, and then boats at Marina Park between 6:45 and 6:54, depending on which organizer page you go by. The parade start and the Peninsula Park drone times are the same as on the other four nights. For anyone staying out for the return pass, it ends around 9:00.

The pier itself has had a busy October. A City of Newport Beach notice dated October 10, 2026, closed Newport Pier, Balboa Pier and the Wedge while crews rebuilt sand berms during high surf linked to Tropical Storm Rachel. City beaches stayed open. An NBPD alert on October 11 said both piers were still temporarily closed. That is the most recent pier status on record as of this writing.

Bayfront houses are on show for both passes

The two-pass route also matters to people who never leave the house. Bayfront homes on the Lido side face the parade on its way out and again on its way back. That is one reason the Ring of Lights home-decorating competition matters on this side of the harbor. Entries are due before noon on Friday, December 11, 2026. Judging is set for Monday, December 14, and entrants are asked to have their decorations ready by then.

The 2026 entry page confirms there will be judged categories and prizes but does not yet name them. Last year's winners list included Best on Peninsula and Best on Lido, along with Best Traditional Lights, Best Humor and Originality, Best Display of Theme, Hi Tech Christmas, and Best Lights and Animation. Treat these as 2025 examples, not the confirmed 2026 list.

The return-pass end has new addresses

Most of what's new on the Peninsula this year is at Lido Marina Village, where the parade's second pass goes by. La La Land Kind Cafe opened its first Orange County café at 3418 Via Lido, and Lido Marina Village listed the grand opening for March 14, 2026. The Daily Pilot reported weekend hours running until 8 p.m. Those hours could change by December, so check them closer to parade week. CAMI NYC opened its first West Coast store at Lido Marina Village, as WWD reported in August. The village's own store listing gives the address as 3344 Via Lido, Suite 100B. A few blocks inland, Lido House on the former City Hall site now lists Kaiya Omakase Sushi + Bar as open, a 12-seat, chef-led omakase counter.

The village's events calendar runs through October before the parade season starts. goop's first-anniversary celebration is on Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Fourth Fridays Vintage Market is on October 23 from noon to 5 p.m., with live music from noon to 3. The Female Maker Harvest Market follows on Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with more than 30 artists. Children in costume can trick-or-treat with merchants from 10 a.m. to noon while supplies last. The village had not posted a 2026 holiday program as of this writing.

If parade week will bring guests, family or a bayfront Ring of Lights entry to your Peninsula address, Weir Properties is glad to share what we know about these streets from Lido to the Fun Zone. And if you're thinking about what your waterfront home might be worth, we're happy to prepare a home valuation before the boats come through.
